Frequently Asked Questions
Complete answers to common questions about our chronological age calculator.
About the Calculator
The Pearson Age Calculator is a professional chronological age calculator that provides exact age calculations in years, months, and days. It offers two calculation modes: Gregorian Exact (standard calendar calculations) and Pearson Manual (30-day months). Despite the name, we are not affiliated with Pearson Education or Pearson Assessments.
Age calculation in years, months, and days provides the precision needed for educational assessments, psychological testing, and clinical evaluations. This format helps ensure accurate norm referencing and proper interpretation of standardized test results, where even small age differences can affect percentile rankings.
Yes, 'Pearson age' and 'chronological age' refer to the same concept. The term 'Pearson age' became popular online as some tools labeled chronological age calculations this way. Our calculator provides standard chronological age calculations with enhanced precision for professional use.
Yes, chronological age is commonly used for school admission eligibility, grade placement decisions, and academic program qualifications. The calculator provides the exact age format typically required by educational institutions and can help determine cutoff date compliance.
While traditionally designed for human age assessments, the calculator works perfectly for pets. Many pet owners and veterinarians use it to track exact pet ages for medical records, vaccination schedules, and milestone celebrations. Is your dog older than you in dog years? Find out!
Calculation Methods
Gregorian Exact uses real calendar dates with varying month lengths and leap years. Pearson Manual assumes all months are exactly 30 days, which is used in certain educational assessment contexts. Choose Gregorian for general use, Pearson for specific assessment protocols that require it.
Use Gregorian Exact for general age calculations, legal documents, and most applications. Use Pearson Manual only when specifically required by assessment manuals or educational testing protocols that specify 30-day months.
Different calculators use different methods: some use average month lengths (30.4375 days), others use exact calendar months, and some assume 30-day months. Our Gregorian mode uses exact calendar calculations, while Pearson mode uses the 30-day assumption.
In Gregorian mode, leap years are calculated exactly using the standard rule: divisible by 4, except century years must be divisible by 400. In Pearson mode, leap years are ignored and all years are treated as 365 days.
No rounding is applied in either mode. Gregorian mode gives exact calendar differences, and Pearson mode gives exact results based on 30-day months. What you see is the precise calculation.
Date Handling
Yes, leap year birthdays (February 29) are handled correctly in both calculation modes. In non-leap years, we use February 28 as the reference point for age calculations. The calculator properly accounts for the 4-year cycle of leap years and ensures accurate age determination regardless of when the leap day birthday occurs.
Use the 'Calculate age on' field to enter any date - past, present, or future. This lets you find out how old someone was on a specific date or will be in the future.
Yes! Enter any future date in the 'Calculate age on' field to see how old someone will be. This is useful for planning assessments or understanding age at future milestones.
The calculator works with historical dates but may have slight inaccuracies due to calendar reforms. The Gregorian calendar was adopted at different times in different countries, which can affect very old date calculations.
Yes, but with limitations. If you only know the birth year, enter January 1 of that year. The actual age could be up to 1 year different depending on the actual birth date within that year.
Features & Usage
Currently, our calculator focuses on date-level precision (days). We don't include time-of-birth for hours/minutes/seconds precision, as this level of detail is rarely needed for educational or clinical age calculations.
We're working on a lightweight widget version for embedding. For now, you can link directly to our calculator or bookmark specific calculations using the share feature.
Use the 'Share' button to generate a link that includes your input dates and calculation mode. Anyone with this link can see the same calculation. You can also use 'Copy' to copy the results text.
The calculator works entirely in your browser, so once the page loads, it will continue to function even if your internet connection is interrupted. However, you need internet to initially load the page.
Currently, the calculator handles one age calculation at a time. For multiple calculations, you'll need to enter each birth date separately. We're considering a batch calculation feature for future updates.
Privacy & Data
No, we don't store any personal information. All calculations are performed entirely in your browser (client-side). Your birth date and other inputs never leave your device.
Yes, it's completely safe. Since all calculations happen in your browser and nothing is transmitted or stored, your birth date remains private to you.
We use minimal analytics to understand how the calculator is used (like which calculation mode is more popular), but we don't track personal information or create user profiles.
Since no data is transmitted or stored, there are no HIPAA concerns with using this calculator. However, always follow your organization's policies regarding online tools.
